Jim McMahon (politician)

James "Jim" McMahon (born 7 July 1980) is a British politician. A member of the Labour Party, he currently serves as leader of Oldham Metropolitan Borough Council in Greater Manchester. He was first elected to Oldham Council in November 2003, representing Failsworth East.
He is the Labour candidate for the Oldham West and Royton by-election on 3 December 2015.
==Early life and education==
McMahon was born in Miles Platting in Greater Manchester, to Roman Catholic parents of Irish descent. His father, William, was a truck driver. The family moved from Cheetham Hill when he was a child to Middleton, where he attended secondary school.〔("Cllr Jim McMahon, Biography" ), jimmcmahon.co.uk; accessed 30 November 2015.〕 He left school at the age of 16.〔
